"On my best behavior…Maybe"

How Low Can You Go?

I can remember a million years ago, Laurie and I went to Cancun on vacation with some dear friends. In spite of some weather issues and a time share salesman that seemed determined to ruin our time there, we made a lot of memories.

One of those memories was (possibly) an ill-advised “booze cruise” out to an island for an awesome beach party dinner. We were young and stupid so we decided to fully embrace the experience. As the 4 of us boarded the boat, we were given 20 ounce plastic cups that attendants wearing “jet packs” of hunch punch would dutifully show up and refill. Yikes.

Upon arriving to this island, the first activity designed for the “drunken sailors” was a limbo contest…the only caveat? Every time you go through the line, you are given a shot of tequila. I was out quickly because I have zero flexibility. But my bride? My then-26 year old bride went all the way to the end and WON this limbo contest. The entire time the final contestants went through the line there was a chant…”How LOW can you GO? How LOW can you GO?”

And that’s a fond memory of a good time to unfortunately raise a befuddled question.

Last night, in a rally in Conway, South Carolina, the former President of the United States went off script on a rant and promised Vladmir Putin that not only would he not protect NATO countries from Russian invasion, but that he would ENCOURAGE him to invade them, especially the ones that haven’t “paid up”.

Folks…I thought the “pussy grabber” speech would do him in. It didn’t. I thought the McCain POW swipe would too. It didn’t.. Calling our soldiers “suckers and losers”? Nope.

But this? Openly siding with Vladmir Putin over our European NATO allies?

I was certain I’d awake today to a chorus of politicians of ALL sides pushing back on this treason. But instead?

I got Marco Rubio saying “He didn’t say what he said”. And then a blanket of silence from Republican lawmakers.

So the question still remains?

“How low can they go?”

It’s early but we’re about to find out.
