Five Stick Friday

I recently finished watching “Ted Lasso” on Apple TV. I’m not sure why I put this off so long. Maybe because I’ve never been a fan of European soccer, maybe because I just wasn’t sure how Jason Sudeikis was going to pull off the role, or maybe it’s just part of my semi-rebellious nature to not watch what everyone else is watching while they’re watching it.

What I quickly figured out is it the show wasn’t about soccer at all. It was about narcissism, settling scores, and gaslighting, all overcome by decency.

Somewhere in the season two, Ted Lasso expresses his belief in communism. He quickly clears up that he means “ROM-communism”, a belief system born in romantic comedies that everything will work out well in the end. The couple reunites, the farm is saved from the bank, the underdog sports team wins the championship against all odds… you get the picture.

There’s a valuable lesson in there for American citizens as we move closer to the 2024 election. One candidate clearly employs gaslighting, hate, misogyny, xenophobia, and in general indecency. The other candidate is Joe Biden.

I’m on the record over the years that Joe Biden was not my favorite choice in 2020. I felt the Democratic Party should have moved to its very deep bench of younger candidates like Amy Klobuchar, Pete Buttigieg, or Gavin Newsom. With that said, the Republican party made my decision for me with a candidate like Donald Trump.

We now have 4 1/2 more months of listening to former president Trump put on his daily display of grievances, lies, and indecency in general. His rhetoric is tired, and his support is waning…. As evidenced by the revelation that he’s now paying supporters off Craigslist to show up at his rallies.

And as much as the media would like to make us think at this race is close…it’s not. In one Primary after another, Democrats are vastly outperforming polling, most notably a huge swing last Tuesday in blood red Ohio.

So don’t worry… and here’s why.

Women’s healthcare is on the ballot.
Birth control and IVF are on the ballot.
Common sense gun control is on the ballot.
A clearly compromised Supreme Court is on the ballot.
Public Education is on the ballot.

And President Biden’s policy positions on each of these are both decent and in-line with the majority of American citizens.

And former President Trump is a convicted felon. Pesky fact.

Nope…Don’t worry, America…. “Cuz every little thing’s…gonna be all right”. 😎
