Five Stick Friday

"On my best behavior…Maybe"

Culinary Time Travel- Part 2

When I was 8 years old, my Dad loaded up my brother and I to drive to Atlanta for the 1971 Peach Bowl. Georgia Tech was to face Ole Miss at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. Before the game, we went to the Varsity where I had my first glorious chili cheese dog, onion rings, and a large Frosted Orange.

The skies opened up on us and it rained relentlessly but we didn’t leave the game until well into the 4th quarter as Tech was getting blown out 41-18. I had a pennant from the game on my bedroom wall for years later.

So today, 53 years later to the day, I’m enjoying some nostalgia watching bowl games with … yes you guessed it… some chili cheese dogs. Only these are with Henry Habanero Chili, fresh grated cheddar cheddar cheese, and Nathan’s 100 percent beef hot dogs. And while that is probably considerably more healthy than the Varsity, it’s certainly not part of my every day diet.

But… it sure brought back a great memory.

Miss you, Dad!
