"On my best behavior…Maybe"

RIP David Crosby…

It was with great sadness that we all learned last week of the passing of David Crosby of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. For those of you who might be too young, that’s not a law firm. It’s one of the best representations of 60’s and 70’s rock ever assembled.

As I sat yesterday listening to an hourlong lunchtime set of CSNY, a thought that didn’t die of loneliness crossed my mind, was modified, and then finally finalized with “None of those four guys are the best vocalists in the world…but DAMN if they don’t have the best harmonies in Rock and Roll”.

Yes…you can give me Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Yes, you can give me the Eagles singing “Seven Bridges Row”. Yes, Styx’s opening to “Renegade” makes a compelling argument.

But day in, and day out? Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. Best harmonies in this business.

So, on this cold morning a week or so after losing David Crosby, I’m again watching YouTube videos of them…spanning all the way back to Woodstock, and coming forward in time til their most recent performances. And even with all the gray hair, a few pounds gained, and eyeglasses…these guys were STILL producing music on a LIVE stage that sounds radio ready.

Rest in Peace, David Crosby. It was a pleasure watching you use “peace” to say your “piece”.
